Weather Closes Down Route 6 Ramp

Channahon Police close ramp to wait for Illinois Department of Transportation to bring salt.

The ramp from Interstate 55 to Route 6 was so slick Thursday evening that Channahon Police needed to close it down. Right around 4:30 p.m., police were sent to that area and needed to wait for Illinois Department of Transportation to bring salt.

"We have at least one car in the ditch," Channahon Deputy Police Chief Jeff Wold said. "They're having problems getting up that little hill."

Wold said the exit to Bluff Road, which also curves around to Route 6 is also slick.

The car in the ditch Thursday night was not the only accident in the village. There have been three or four accidents during the day.

"There’s a lot of bad spots," Wold said. "The way the snow is blowing is creating slick spots.

"Its making the east west roads really slick."

The three spots in town that Wold highlighted were all along Route 6. They are:

  • Route 6 and Bell Road
  • Route 6 and McKinley Woods Road
  • Route 6 and the High School
  • Route 6 and Ridge Road

Those areas all have open farmland and the drifting is causing challenges

Wold also reminded drivers to take their time, go slowly and watch for other drivers.
