Woman & Baby Leap From Window After Hubby Sets Blaze: Cops

A Joliet man was charged with aggravated arson for allegedly torching his estranged wife's house.

A woman clutching her baby leaped out a bedroom window after her estranged husband set the place ablaze, police said.

Kelvon Tanzy, 27, was charged with aggravated arson in connection with the fire in his wife's Moran Street house early Monday morning.

Tanzy was at his wife's home when he became upset and grabbed a can of lighter fluid, police said. He allegedly poured fluid around the floor, on a wall and on an artificial plant, then lit it.

Tanzy's wife, who was in a bedroom with her infant child, grabbed the baby and jumped out a winow, police said. She reportedly suffered a cut to her toe while kicking out a window and went to have it stitched up, but otherwise mother and child were unharmed.

Tanzy fled the scene but was later captured and jailed, police said.
