Brennan Presents Positive State of the Village

Upbeat Minooka president cites past sucesses, looks forward to opening of new businesses.

The interior of Cookie's Restaurant in Minooka was packed Tuesday afternoon as staff, residents and representatives turned out to hear Village President Pat Brennan's State of the Village address.

"My appreciation also goes to the staff of the village of Minooka," Brennan said early in the address. "We work together as a team to make our community a safe and nice place to call home."

Brennan highlighted some of the recent wins of local teams, including the Minooka Community High School wrestling team; the hiring and promoting of staff, including Minooka Police Chief Justin Meyer; and intergovernmental agreements, like the Triad.

The Triad is a working body between Channahon Police, Minooka Police and Will County Sheriff's Police designed to keep senior citizens safe. Brennan threw in a bit of humor after making attendees aware of the group.

"We're working on a program where if you threaten a senior citizen, it becomes a felony, so remember that when you come after me," he said.

Brennan also highlighted the fiscal responsibility of the village, efforts to increase recreational opportunities, including the Wapella Street Park and the purchase of the old Napa Auto Parts store, adjacent to Village Hall; and the success of persuading residents to shop locally.

"Our sales tax for the year exceeded what we budgeted, so continue to buy local," he said.
