Channahon Hires New Village Administrator

Board also bids farewell to retiring employees.

As the Channahon Village Board on Monday bid farewell to several retirees and former staffers, it welcomed somel new hires.

Thomas Durkin, currently village administrator in Crete, will take over the role  of the recently retired Village Administrator Joe Pena effective July 28.

Durkin, who also previously served as planning director for Tinley Park, will get a salary of $112,000 plus a $300 per month vehicle allowance. Initially, he will not have to live in the village, but that could be made a requirement once he's in the job for four years, according to the Herald-News.

The board also voted to hire Erik Bush as the village's new finance director. Bush steps into the role left by another retiree who was honored at Monday's meeting, Bob Guess. Bush has served as business manager for McLean County Unit 5 School District; CFO of Peoria County; city administrator in Flora, Illinois; and director of finance and information services in Warrenville, according to the village.

The village has yet to set a start date for Bush.

Other departures

Tuesday was also the final board meeting for Community Development Director Mike McMahon. According to the village, that position has been consolidated with GIS/information systems coordinator under the new title of director of community development and information systems.

Village staffer Mike Petrick was appointed to fill the new position, with a starting salary of $79,000, effective July 4.

Finally, village officials said goodbye to another retiree, Channahon Police Department Records Manager Robin Margliano.
