Incumbents Dominate Minooka Village Board Election

Minooka First captures three seats.

Among the primary responsibilities for the Minooka Board of Trustees is to balance the budget, foster a healthy economy and keep the peace, so to speak.   

In Tuesday night’s election, incumbents , and retained their positions as village trustees by a considerably narrow margin given voter turnout.

The Village Board of Minooka is comprised of six members who serve four-year terms.

, attorney and a candidate for Team Minooka , the new kids on the block who opposed the three incumbents, said that the biggest challenge they faced in the election was “being  newer and lesser known in a small community; 77 percent of the votes came from the established more traditional parts of the village”

They were also hurt by the low voter turnout. Andreanao added.

“I plan to stay involved in the Minooka community because some of us who are newer have different things to offer,” Andreano said.

Martin, who is a contractor, sees the board’s biggest challenge as managing finances and reducing taxes.

“We have to work to control our spending as much as we can while keeping essential community services in place” Martin said. “Going door to door during the campaign made me realize just how much of a burden high property taxes are to the community."

In addition to reigning in spending, Martin wants the village to continue some of its incentives.

"[I] hope the village will renew the stimulus package to provide sales incentives to sell homes," he said. “This package uses developer money not tax dollars; and [it] will create jobs in both Will and Grundy counties."
