Minooka Approved Intergovernmental Agreement for 911 Dispatching

Village had been waiting for other municipalities to approve agreements.

With a unanimious vote Tuesday night, trustees approved an intergovernmental agreement that will allow the dispatching for Minooka Police Department to go through the new Grundy County 911 center.

“We will start paying for 911 services now, we’ve always received them free before,” Minooka Village Manager Dan Duffy said in a phone interview after the meeting.

The new arrangement will go into effect on May 1.

Prior to the vote Tuesday night, Minooka Police were dispatched by Grundy County, but the county was picking up the cost. The agreement passed Tuesday will cost the village $100,000 per year for three years. That is Minooka’s share of the $1.8 million annual operating cost for the center. In addition to Minooka, four municipal police departments, seven fire districts and a private ambulance service are dispatched through Grundy County.

“We’ve been waiting on or about a month to see if (the village of) Coal City was going to go along with it,” Duffy said.

The village south of Minooka approved its portion of the cost and its intergovernmental agreement Monday night.
