Rep. Adam Kinzinger Backs Military Drawdown in Afghanistan

The Republican congressman from Channahon recently returned from a trip to Afghanistan, after which he told the Chicago Tribune that thousands of troops will still be needed there.

Rep. Adam Kinzinger, who recently returned from a week of overseas travel, believes up to 10,000 U.S. troops will need to stay in Afghanistan even after the drawdown is complete, the Chicago Tribune reports.

A military pilot from Channahon, Kinzinger, 35, serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, according to the report. He spoke with the Tribune after visiting Pakistan, Afghanistan and Liberia last week.

Kinzinger said he found morale to be high among the 20 military personnel from Illinois he met with while in Afghanistan, according to the report.
