State Senator, Local Officials Will Read to Preschoolers in Channahon

Event Monday at N.B. Galloway Elementary School aimed at driving home the point that early childhood education is a proven crime-fighting strategy.

Some heavy hitters from the political and law enforcement arenas will be reading to a classroom full of preschool children on Monday, April 15, at N.B. Galloway Elementary School in Channahon.

The list is topped by state Sen. Pat McGuire, D-Joliet. He will be joined by Channahon Village Administrator Joe Pena, Channahon police chief Jeff Wold and Elwood police chief Fred Hayes for an event that begins at 9:45 a.m. at the school, located at 24805 W. Roberts Road, Channahon.

The local and state leaders will discuss their support for early childhood education as a proven crime-fighting strategy, according to a news release from the Fight Crime: Invest in Kids organization.

"Research shows that high-quality preschool programs prevent future violent crime," according to the news release.

The Fight Crime organization will provide detailed numbers on Will County children served—and underserved—by quality preschool programs at the event, according to the news release.
