Will County to Receive $1.5M in Federal Flood Aid

The county's share is just a portion of the $73 million allocated to Illinois in federal disaster relief.

Will County's share of the $73 million available in federal aid to help the victims of April's torrential rain and flooding is $1.5 million, according to Gov. Pat Quinn's office.

Quinn announced this week that 26,000 Illinois residents would receive aid in the form of money for temporary home rental, repair work and replacement of personal items. Nearly $2 million also is available in low-interest loans for residents and businesses.

“These grants and loans are helping people put their lives back together after the devastating April floods,” Quinn said. “This federal aid is critical to the recovery process, and I appreciate the Obama Administration’s efforts to speed needed relief to people affected by the flooding.”

The federal dollars will go to aid residents in 33 Illinois counties, including DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kendall, Lake, Will and Cook.

Those affected by floods should register for federal assistance. Call 800-621-3362 (800-462-7585 for the hearing and speech impaired) to apply for assistance. Registration also can be done online at disasterassistance.gov
