Should Minooka High Dump Class Ranking?

Parents and students oppose the idea of dropping class ranking while a majority of faculty want it to stay, according to a report.

Parents are concerned about the possibility that Minooka Community High School will eliminate class ranking, WJOL reports.

About 50 parents attended a forum this week at the high school’s South Campus in Channahon where administrators showed data that indicates college admission don’t look at class rank as closely as they once, according to the report. The concern from school officials is that students become overly fixated and worried about ranking, which can influence the choices they make.

A survey presented at the forum showed that students and their parents want class ranking to remain while a majority of faculty favor dumping it, according to WJOL.

Everyone needs to be the same, no one is smarter than the next one! Parents need to wake up regarding common core!

If tax payer (parents) want the ranking to remain the faculty shouldn't even get a say. Why not reward the kids who are academically successful just like the athletes get rewarded for their skills and hard work? And even if some colleges aren't looking at the rankings with as much weight toward admissions, it is still considered and it would be a shame for our students to be denied admissions because our program no longer lists rankings. Soon we'll be getting rid of grades too as they also add pressure to student learning.

No no no! All are NOT the same. These are people, not robots! And in lIfe, there are always always ALWAYS people better at academics and people better at art, or music, or sports. Why in the hell would you take away a goal? To make it easIer? Teach them all to the test and no-brain it so they can be good Factory workers some day. Betcha Harvard is still looking at Rank!

This "new age" idea that no student is smarter than the others is exactly why every other developed nation in the world is passing us up! China, Japan & S. Korea LOVE to see this kind of thinking--they know they can OWN us in 20 more years! My Mom was a teacher for 30+ years when the school district told her she had to teach to a "C" level and couldn't give extra attention or projects to more gifted students. She retired rather than buy in to that "kumbaya" stupidity. God help the US when the mantle of leadership is passed on to the Spud Generation!

All kids are NOT equal. and the class rank tells colleges the students more likely to complete their programs. Not every kid can throw a good football pass or pass a difficult Physics exam. Dumbing down curriculum does not make the class smarter, it only lowers the expectations.

The administration doesn't get a vote unless they are paying taxes in the district. Maybe we should remove scoring from althletic events, too. Not.
