Joe McAsey: In his own words

"When I look back, I will remember the Fall of 2010 as the best cross country season in Minooka's history. We had a great time competing this year, and I will remember this season for the rest of my life. I know they are going to have an even better year next year."

Kevin Gummerson: Coach's tribute

"When I think of all Joe McAsey has accomplished, his performance at the IHSA state championships was something I will never forget. Joe went from being 83rd in the state his junior year to running 14:34 for 3 miles and finished in ninth place. He improved so much by doing things the right way, and he inspired others around him to do the same. Joe is a great young man, and it is great to see a quality kid work hard and then accomplish the lofty goals he set."

Personal

McAsey played football, basketball and volleyball before picking up cross country in 2009. He enjoys running and hanging out with friends. He recently announced plans to attend the University of Illinois and continue his cross country/track career with the Illini. McAsey placed fourth in the IHSA state track meet in the 800 meters last spring. He was clocked in 1:53.90. He says, "I admire Coach (Kevin) Gummerson, Coach (Matt) Thomas, Coach (Nick) Lundin) and Coach (Leslie) Hencinski."
