Pack of Tigers make college selections

Graves twins to attend St. Xavier University

Twins Morgan and Marissa Graves have signed to play women’s soccer at St. Xavier University in Chicago. Morgan had 18 goals and three assists for the Tigers (8-11-2). For her career, she scored 51 goals and assisted on 20 others.

The senior forward was Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association all-sectional, all-SouthWest Suburban Conference and made the Pepsi Showdown all-tournament team.

“Morgan was our leading scorer and the only player that consistently had success,” Joliet West coach Jeff Lundeen said. “Morgan was by far our strongest all-around player. Her strengths include her explosive short speed, physical size/strength, technical ability and pure athleticism.  She was forced to carry the bulk of the responsibility in our attack, whether it is as a target for others or making attacking runs. Morgan wore many hats and was one of our few players that consistently got the job done.”

Morgan Graves, senior midfielder Jackie Wysocki and senior defender Kristin Plyer were named to the all-SWSC team.

Softball player Katie Bourg will attend Robert Morris University in Chicago. The four-year varsity player hit .263 with 15 runs, 13 RBI and a .340 on-base percentage while playing third base for the Tigers.

“Katie is a versatile player with great fundamentals and an even better work ethic," Robert Morris coach Megan Smith said in a press release. "I expect her to lead by example and make an immediate impact on the team in 2011-2012."

Sam Wietlespach plans on competing for the men’s track and field team at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. Wietlespach took second place to earn all-SWSC in the 3,200-meter run.

Football player Jonathan Smith signed on with Bemidji State University in Minnesota.

Remy Roberts-Burnett chose Western Illinois University in Macomb. Roberts-Burnett was a guard for the boys basketball team in the winter.
