Softball: Novak, Minooka Rout Joliet Catholic

Minooka 15, Joliet Catholic 0 (5 inn.). Pitcher Sara Novak dominates on the mound and at the plate as Minooka ends two-game losing streak.

After two tough losses, the Minooka Indians came out hungry and ready in their road game against the Joliet Catholic Angels.

The poor Angels never had a chance. The Indians scored in every inning except one in a 15-0 blowout that ended after five innings.

“That’s Indians baseball,” Indians coach Mark Brown said.

The Indians (3-2) got help early from a pair of defensive miscues by the Angels (3-1), scoring a run. Second baseman Lindsey Fenner broke the game open with a two-run homer to put the Indians up 3-0 after a half-inning of play.

That was all sophomore pitcher Sara Novak would need. She pitched the entire game, striking out seven while giving up four hits and allowing four walks.

“It’s not my best start, but I’m still getting used to pitching outside,” she said.

Whatever discomfort she had on the mound didn’t translate in the batter’s box. She went 2-for-4 with a home run and 5 RBI.

The Indians put on a team effort on offense. Six different players had at least one RBI in the contest and every starter reached first base at least once in the contest.

“We have 13 girls on the team and I am confident all of them can contribute in some way for the team,” Brown said.

Angels starter Ashley Searing struggled with control and location for most of the contest. She didn’t get much help from her defense, though. They committed three errors in a little over an inning of play, giving the Indians the offensive spark they needed to end the game early.

Brown is confident their hitting attack will continue, saying, “The warmer the weather gets, the warmer out bats’ll get.”

The Indians host Bolingbrook on Saturday, weather permitting.
