Vandalism Spree in Minooka Leads to Park Bathrooms Closing Early

Village trustees ask residents to assist in a community policing effort at Summit Park and Lions Park.

A recent vandalism spree at two Minooka parks has led to action by the Village board that will result in restrooms closing early and residents joining forces with the Village in a community policing effort, according to a Sun-Times News Group report.

Toilets have been damaged and bathrooms have been ransacked in recent weeks at Summit Park and Lions Park, Minooka Mayor Patrick Brennan said in the report. In an effort to prevent further vandalism, the Village board agreed to lock up the bathrooms in both parks at 7 p.m. each night during a recent meeting.

“It’s sad that these things are going on,” trustee Terry Houchens stated in the Sun-Times News Group report. “Maybe we need to start thinking about security cameras.”

One official said the Village’s field cameras have been damaged and stolen, according to the report. Houchens called for help from residents to help in identifying and apprehending vandals. He asked anyone with information to call the Village at 815-467-2151.
