Circus Coming to Joliet Mall This Week

The Joliet City Council issued a license for the Carson and Barnes Circus to put on shows Wednesday and Thursday at the Louis Joliet Mall.

A license that will allow Carson and Barnes to hold a circus in the parking lot of the was approved Monday by the , just two days before the first show.

It was a bit of a risk given that they've been advertising the Wednesday and Thursday performances before receiving the permit. The move could have irked the council and tempted them to say no, City Manager Tom Thanas acknowledged when questioned about it by the mayor.

But the shows will go on, with the big top setting up in the parking lot between the and stores.

Performances will be held at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. both days. Admission is $16 for adults and $8 for children ages 3 to 11, with $4 off coupons available at the Carson and Barnes Web site, www.carsonbarnescircus.com/buy-circus-tickets/.

The circus, which has been in operation since 1937 and was last in Joliet in 2009, features exotic animals, including camels, zebras and a pigmy hippo, as well as horses, elephants and goats. In addition to the show, the company also sets up elephant and pony rides, an air slide, a bounce house and a miniature train.

John say "knowledge about the circus is all over the internet" yes and everything on the internet is true..lol I have seen alot of positive about the circus. So it must be true. You brought politics into this I did not. You seem to be a Ron Paul Supporter is everything I read on the internet about Ron Paul true? I saw an elephant fly on the internet. I saw it it must be true. Unlike you I went to the circus I don't have to base my opinion on what I read. I like the circus. Did you know the circus is inspected on a regular basis? When was the last time someone inspected how your house and the way you raise your chidren. There is alot of child abuse so I know you abuse your kids. As far as would I sue if an accedent happened I won't anwers hypothetical questions. Fact is I went to the circus no accedents happed I loved it. Yes there have been accidents but hundredss of shows go on everyday around the world and there are very few accidents. You showed your son a video about the circus and he said he won't go. Maybe you should show him videos about child abuse and child labor maybe he won't wear his cloths, or play with his toys that were made with child labor. You don't like the circus I don't like people telling me what I can and can't enjoy. It's a free country you enjoy what you like a I will do the same.

The USDA only has 104 inspectors/veterinarians to do physical inspections for over 6000 animal licenses a year. Unless there is a direct complaint the USDA may only inspect the circus once a year. The circus industry is to exotic animals what Jerry Sandusky is to children, an Abuser. Whether the abuse is physical, mental or sexual, it is WRONG! When parents dismiss the circuses violations and this animal cruelty and still attend the circus they are no better than Joe Paterno who did nothing for over a decade to stop the abuse of children. It is morally, socially and ethically wrong to stand by and do nothing to protect innocent children and animals from any kind of abuse.

I encourage it..live like there is no tomorrow bud..cause your ignoring what goes on just so you can enjoy your entertainment...which usually ends up having bad effects and life threatening or ending experiences...That I teach my kids from...lol...No one said not to go. People only informed you what you were going to enjoy and how the animals are treated for your entertainment...People like you are the problem with this world..You only believe what you are fed through your news channels..when someone shows you facts and proof you call it a conspiracy theory...
