Hazardous Conditions on Local Roads: State Police

Illinois State Police have issued a traffic alert, warning motorists that all interstates, state routes and local roads "are snow covered and have snow drifts in most areas due to heavy winds."

Police are urging drivers to use extra caution if they must be on the road today.

"Also, remember to slow down, and change lanes away from all emergency vehicles conducting duties with their emergency lights activated," state police said in the alert. "If motorists decide to drive during these conditions, we ask that they please drive cautiously and have warm clothing, food and water, in their vehicles in case they become stranded. We are doing our best to attend to all stranded motorists as quickly as possible."
