Kinzinger Accepting Congressional Art Competition Entries

Competition is open to all high school students in the 16th District.

Got art? Then, you'll want to look up Congressman Adam Kinzinger. Kinzinger, the U.S. Representative for Illinois' 16th Congressional District, is accepting submissions from the District's high school students for the 2013 Congressional Art Competition, according to a report in the Morris Daily Herald. "The Congressional Art Competition is a great opportunity to see the hard work put forward by the talented high school students of the 16th district," Kinzinger stated in the report. "I look forward to seeing the creative entries for the 2013 contest." Gun Control: Where Does Your Congressman Stand?

Patch contacted 10 newly elected representatives to find out what they plan to do to help curb gun violence in our country in the wake of last week's mass killing in Newtown, CT. Those who actually wanted to discuss the issue say it's time for a change.

When members of the 113th Congress take their seats in January, one of the top items on their agenda very well could be a new look at federal gun control laws.  In the wake of the Newtown, CT, tragedy of one week ago today, President Obama on Wednesday set a January deadline for his administration to "create concrete proposals" to curb gun violence in the United States. Obama also called on Congress to reinstate an assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 to "pursue the possibility of limiting high-capacity ammunition clips" and to "close a gun show loophole that allows people to purchase firearms from private dealers without a background check."  What will come of this renewed debate is yet to be seen, but what is certain is that …

For all you anti gun people...we can charter a bus and drop you and your wife and kids off on the south side of Chicago for a four block walk through "the neighborhood"...a gun in a sealed envelope. Kinzinger Wins Newly Drawn District

In a race that pitted two incumbents against one another, Kinzinger comes out ahead.

Congressional redistricting effects each person differently, but for Congressman Adam Kinzinger's old district, it meant a huge change. "We began this journey three months ago, after my district was divided into five different parts," he said in a written release. "The largest part of my district went into the new 16th, but about 70 percent of the district was new." On Tuesday night, Kinzinger won the Congressional seat from Don Manzullo, a two-decade incumbant. Kinzinger attributed the win to getting out an meeting the residents of his newly-drawn district.
