Daniel Sanders -- a boyhood friend of his 58-year-old victim's son -- broke into the woman's home and held a gun to her head, Joliet police said.
A man wearing a mask and armed with a gun broke into a Joliet woman's home and raped her -- and then promptly fell asleep in the woman's bed with his weapon under the pillow, Joliet Police Cmdr. Al Roechner said. The 58-year-old victim didn't know her attacker until she was told his name, Roechner said. He was a boyhood friend of one her sons, he said. The attack occurred at about 3:30 a.m. April 18, when Daniel D. Sanders, 25, of 1309 Pawnee, Joliet, broke into a home in the 1200 block of Rowell Street, held a .45-caliber handgun to the woman's head and sexually assaulted her, Roechner said. When he fell asleep, the victim was able to leave the house and had a neighbor to call police, he said. Officers surrounded the house and found …

Neighbors grabbed one of the suspects before he could flee, and he identified the two others who helped carry out the alleged burglaries, Joliet police said.
Three Joliet men who allegedly stole loose change, CDs, cigarettes and other small items from parked cars face felony charges of burglary from a motor vehicle, Joliet police said. A resident in the 1600 block of Peridot spotted the men going through a car at about 2:40 a.m. Monday and alerted others neighbors, who helped grab Kevin T. Schelke, 18, of 1213 Quail Drive, before he was able to flee, Cmdr. Al Roechner said. When in police custody, Schelke identified his accomplices as Jonathan J. Medina, 23, also of 1213 Quail Drive, and Ryan A. Plant, 19, of 4701 Mallard Lane, Roechner said. All three were identified by residents. Roechner said the items taken were relatively small, and included CDs and DVDs, loose change and a change purse …

Theodore Edwards, charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse, also had the victims touch him sexually, Joliet police say.
A Joliet man who allegedly fondled two young girls and had them touch him sexually was arrested Monday on a charge of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, Joliet Police Cmdr. Rich Demick said. Theodore Edwards Harris, 39, of 330 S. Joliet St., is accused of having sexual contact with the victims, who are now 11 and 15 years old, on numerous occasions in 2011, Demick said. Harris is described as a family member of the victims. Harris was arrested Monday night at his residence. Demick said the case took a long time to pull together because detectives want to ensure there were no other victims and because Harris was not a threat to other potential victims while serving a prison term at Shawnee Correctional Center at the time the allegations …

Richard Long was reportedly intoxicated after he shot a weapon from the second-story of his far West Joliet home, police said.
Playing possum pretty much works only for possums, as a Joliet man discovered when he pretended to be asleep after allegedly firing a gun out his second-story window, Joliet Police Cmdr. Rich Demick said. Richard Edward Long, 53, was reportedly intoxicated after spending Friday night and early Saturday morning at dinner and having drinks with several family members to celebrate an undisclosed occasion, Demick said. When they returned to his 2103 Wesmore Lakes Drive home at about 3 a.m., Long was "acting erratically" and went up to a second-floor bedroom where he reportedly made a lot of noise, family members told police. Shortly thereafter, they heard a loud sound, Demick said. When they rushed upstairs, they found Long pretending to be …

Jeremy Hoehn, whose brother survived the gang-related attack that killed Christopher Perry Jr., is accused of shooting the gun during Perry's visitation, Joliet police said.
The man who fired a gun outside the funeral home where murder victim Christopher Perry Jr.'s visitation was being held is the brother of the man shot with Perry, Joliet Police Cmdr. Rich Demick said. Jeremy L. Hoehn, 21, of 416 Leach, Joliet, was arrested on a warrant Thursday and booked into the Will County jail on charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm, possession of a firearm as a gang member, possession of a firearm with an FOID card and felon in possession of a firearm. The shooting occurred at about 4:25 p.m. Monday in the parking lot of the Minor-Morris Funeral Home at 112 Richards St. Joliet police heard the gunfire and raced to the area, but while a weapon was recovered, no arrest was made at the time. Steven Manos was wanted on warrants, and apparently decided to take off as a Joliet officer was returning to his squad to write a ticket and check his record, Cmdr. Rich Demick said.
A Lockport man pulled over by Joliet police on a traffic stop gave the officer his driver's license and then stepped on the gas in an apparent attempt to avoid arrest, Joliet Cmdr. Rich Demick said. Steven C. Manos, 24, of 513 N. Reef, was stopped in the 1300 block of West Jefferson Street on Dec. 29, Demick said. However, he must have realized that he was in for more than a traffic citation given that there were outstanding warrants on a felony theft charge and for failure to attend a court hearing, Demick said. His arrest would trigger a violation of his parole on a previous case, he said. Manos was stopped by Joliet police just a few blocks away at May and John streets, at which point he exited his car and made a run for it. Police were…

It's believed Shamus French went into an under-renovation home in the St. Pat's neighborhood and broke off all of the pipes he could, Joliet police said.
A man observed by Joliet police walking down the street with an armload of copper pipes was arrested Tuesday night for burglary, according to police reports. Shamus L. French, 29, told Officer Pat Blatti he was walking near a home at 1 S. Cagwin Ave. at about 10:30 p.m. when he happened to notice some copper pipes lying near the sidewalk, Cmdr. Rich Demick said. French claimed he thought they were trash and decided to help himself, Demick said. Evidence at the under-renovation house told a different story, however. When police went to investigate, however, they found a side window was open and a stack of copper pipes stacked beneath it, Demick said. Inside, they observed that someone had "broken all of the copper that could be broken off…

Police say a neighbor spotted the break-in in progress, allowing them to capture Larry Williams in the act of burglarizing a house.
An alert neighbor who spotted a man breaking into a Joliet home gave police the opportunity to nab the suspect in the act, Joliet police Cmdr. Al Roechner said. Larry Darnell Williams, 47, of 14 Bradford, unincorporated Joliet, was arrested and charged with residential burglary shortly after 2 p.m. Monday when police took him into custody at the 260 Bridge St. home he was allegedly in the process of looting, Roechner said. Williams is accused of riding his bike to the home, parking it out front and then kicking in the front door to gain access, he said. A neighbor who called the police after observing the situation gave officers the opportunity to surround the house and demand that Williams come out, Roechner said. He did so without …
