From Classes to Art in the Park, Arts Council Aims to Fill Community Need

Founded in 2008, Three Rivers Arts Council unites artists in the community for networking, education and entertainment.

After moving to Channahon from the strong arts community of Oak Park, Amy Hayes was acutely aware of the lack of a similar presence in her new town. "It was just a huge contrast and I was really looking for that art involvement," she said. In 2006, she began researching how to build an arts council and two years later, Three Rivers Arts Council was born. Hayes now serves as its executive director. In July, the Three Rivers Arts Council held its first Art in the Park event in Central Park in Channahon. "We're going to be repeating that on June 25, 2011," Hayes said. "The community of Channahon has been a huge supporter of ours. The Art in the Park is going to be big for us. We want that to be our central event every year now." The Arts …
