Plainfield Central Brings Home Second-Place Trophy

Wildcats' girls bowling team captures school's highest athletic finish in any IHSA state tourney; Oswego places fifth and Minooka nabs ninth.

ROCKFORD–The Plainfield Central girls bowling team didn’t lose the lead it built Friday during the final day of competition in the girls state bowling tournament at Cherry Lanes. Central was defeated by a team bowling in its own house which won its fourth state championship in 11 years. Although Machesney Park Harlem beat out Plainfield Central by 348 pins for the state championship Saturday, the Wildcats were anything but disappointed by bringing home the school’s best state finish in any sport. “They earned it just like we earned second place,” Plainfield Central coach Connie McGrath said. “These kids didn’t let up and didn’t focus on Harlem. They could have collapsed and they didn’t. They stayed strong, true to their goals, they …

Minooka Punches Ticket to Girls State Bowling Meet

Indians win second straight sectional girls bowling championship.

ORLAND PARK–The Minooka High School girls bowling team is picking the right time to peak. Although the Indians haven’t completely peaked yet, they are on the way up the hill after winning their second straight sectional championship at the Andrew Sectional on Saturday at Orland Bowl. Minooka rolled a 5,955 to advance to the state meet for the sixth time in school history. The Indians are making their fifth appearance in the last six years. They took third in the state in 2005, but haven’t made it to the second day at the state meet the last three trips. “As soon as it was over, we talked about this is not just about getting to the state tournament, it’s about competing at the state tournament,” Minooka coach Frank Yudzentis said. “It’s an …

Girls Bowling: Plainfield Central Edges Minooka

Both teams pleased after splitting up points in Southwest Prairie Conference dual at Town and Country Lanes.

JOLIET – It’s not very often both teams come away happy after a competition. It happened when two of the top teams in the Southwest Prairie Conference squared off Thursday in a girls bowling dual at Town and Country Lanes. Plainfield Central High School came away with six out of 10 points, but Minooka was anything but disappointed, scoring four teams points. “I’ll take that,” Minooka coach Frank Yudzentis said. “They are one of the best teams in the state right now. They are really, really good.” “I’ll take six points any day of the week,” Plainfield Central coach Connie McGrath said. “It could have gone either way. Taking a split, I’m happy with it.” What McGrath wasn’t happy with was how the Wildcats started the meet, shooting a 926. …

Minooka Takes Another Step Forward at Walker Invite

Plainfield Central's Zimmerman second by just one pin in girls bowling tournament.

LOCKPORT – The Minooka girls bowling team took another step forward during a third-place finish at the 13th annual Dane and Celeste Walker Invite Saturday at Strike N Spare II. The Indians took home a trophy, which went to the top four teams, by rolling a 5,274 six-game total. Prospect won the meet going away with a 5,720. Lockport took second with a 5,358. "It was the same kind of shot as last week (at Plainfield North's Strikefest) and we did pretty well with it," Minooka coach Frank Yudzentis said. "We're getting closer to figuring things out and finding the combination to play with the six girls we think are going to be in the lineup." The battle for the individual championship was much closer than the team standings as Plainfield …

Poole Heats Up During Minooka's Sweep of Romeoville

Senior rolls 681 series during Southwest Prairie Conference dual meet.

JOLIET—Minooka High School's girls bowling team is gaining momentum. That's good news for the Indians and bad news for the rest of the opponents on the schedule. Minooka swept Romeoville 10-0 in a Southwest Prairie Conference dual meet Thursday evening at Town and Country Lanes in Joliet. The Indians rolled a 3,012 to the Spartans' 2,259. Leading the way was Alyssa Poole, who rolled games of 231, 210 and 240 to finish with a 681 series. "I was relaxed, and that was a key for me," Poole said. "It's something I've been working on." "She's been doing really well this year," Minooka coach Frank Yudzentis said. "She's put a lot of time in and you can tell that. She understands it's a long season, she wants to get better and she's doing that …

Plainfield Central Girls Strike for Second Straight Title

Wildcats lead charge as Southwest Prairie Conference teams take seven of first eight places in season-opening bowling invite at Pioneer Lanes.

Just in case there was any doubt, members of the Southwest Prairie Conference made the rest of the 17 teams take notice at the Plainfield Central Girls Bowling Invite Saturday at Pioneer Lanes. The league proclaims itself as the best in the state and not many would argue after it took seven of the first eight places in the 24-team, season-opening tournament. The host Wildcats captured the team championship for the second year in a row with a pinfall total of 5,716. SPC members Oswego East, Oswego, Minooka, Plainfield South and Plainfield North also finished in the top eight along with Plainfield Central's Junior Varsity team. "It'd be hard to find a better conference in the state, top-to-bottom," Minooka coach Frank Yudzentis said. "This …
