Patch found local stores in Bolingbrook offering holiday sales, personalized service and unique merchandise.
Bolingbrook has plenty of big box stores gearing up for Black Friday 2012. But it's time to also give our Bolingbrook small businesses some love. Small Business Saturday 2012 will take place Nov. 24. The annual event was launched in 2010 by American Express. And this year, organizers have been running promotions for weeks in print, on radio, TV and social media sites, as well as on signs hung in mom-and-pop store windows across the country. According to Janelle Zenner, who owns J Rae Boutique at The Promenade along with her husband, Josh, the atmosphere at a local small business is not the only benefit of shopping there. “Supporting small businesses supports your community and your neighbors,” Janelle Zenner said. “And we live right here …

One way or the other, whether he's going to prison or back home, it looks like Drew Peterson won't mark a fourth year in the Will County jail.
Three years ago today, a small army of police descended on Drew Peterson as he drove away from his Bolingbrook home, and a small army of media was there to record it. Three years later, the press is back, as the attention-starved Peterson was recently in court for the first time in nearly a year and a half. Peterson may have appreciated the coverage, but unfortunately for him, the disgraced former cop was still stuck in jail waiting on his murder trial to finally start. The good news for Peterson, 58, is he likely won’t be spending another year in segregation in the Will County jail. His trial on charges he murdered his third wife, Kathleen Savio, is all but certain to begin before the year is out, ending a lengthy legal saga of appeals …

The friend that Drew Peterson sent into his third wife's house to find her dead body was recently arrested by the Naperville police.
The man who found Drew Peterson's third wife drowned in her dry bathtub was arrested by the Naperville police in connection with battering his brother. Steve Carcerano, 44, of Bolingbrook was taken into custody March 27 in connection with an incident three weeks earlier near the intersection of Freedom Drive and Warrenville Road. Carcerano and his brother were together in a vehicle at the time of the reported battery, said Naperville police Sgt. Gregg Bell. "He put his brother out of the car," Bell said. Witnesses called police to report the matter and Naperville officers secured a warrant for Carcerano's arrest. Carcerano is due back in DuPage County court on May 2. Bell said Carcerano's brother did not suffer any serious injuries in the …

Lifetime debuted "Drew Peterson: Untouchable" last night. What did you think?
Now's not the time to awkwardly deny you watch Lifetime movies, not when the channel's most recent flick was about Bolingbrook's own, Drew Peterson. Lifetime debuted "Drew Peterson: Untouchable" last night. The film stars Rob Lowe as Peterson, the disgraced ex-Bolingbrook cop who is accused of killing his third wife, Kathleen Savio, in March 2004. The movie has been in the works for nearly a year and is based off of Shorewood Patch Editor Joseph Hosey's book Fatal Vows: The Tragic Wives of Drew Peterson. Patch movie critic Dave Wilson said the movie "remains true to the real-life saga, which is a relief." He goes on: After all, you can’t get much weirder than what we can only imagine really happened to Drew’s third and fourth wives. Rob …

Your vote could help make a world of difference for students in Bolingbrook's Valley View School District.
It was Benjamin Franklin who once said, "If we do not hang together, we shall surely hang separately." I know you're not from Bolingbrook, but Bolingbrook sure needs your help. The Frohns, longtime residents of Bolingbrook, are among 24 national finalists for Patch's Deck the House contest. What's at stake? A lot, actually. If the Frohns receive the most votes by Sunday, Jan. 8, the Valley View School District will get $100,000 for local students. Now we know your kids don't attend any of Valley View's schools. But the Frohns are the only Illinois candidate. And during these cash-strapped times we live in, anyone can realize the enormous effect $100,000 can have on a child's education. Please take a moment to vote for the Frohns and help…

Hollywood star Rob Lowe will play the accused wife-killer.
Updated at 12:05 p.m. on Thursday. Drew Peterson: Untouchable, Lifetime's made-for-TV movie based on the Drew Peterson saga, will air in January, said Joseph Hosey, author of the nonfiction book Fatal Vows: The Tragic Wives of Drew Peterson, which the book is based off of. Hosey, who is also editor of Shorewood Patch, said the airing date is set for Jan. 21. The movie has been in the works for nearly a year. In June, it was reported Rob Lowe signed on to play the former ex-Bolingbrook cop Peterson. The film will explore the two cases in which one of Peterson's wives was killed and another mysteriously disappeared and also features Kaley Cuoco, who stars the Big Bang Theory, as Stacy Peterson. From a Lifetime release: Charming Chicago-…

The Illinois Supreme Court is sending Drew Peterson’s case back to the appellate court and told the judges to figure it out themselves.
It looks like serial marrier and accused wife-killer Drew Peterson is going to be spending another Christmas in the clink as the state’s higher courts pass his case back and forth like a hot potato. In the latest development in the protracted prosecution of Peterson — who was arrested in May 2009 on charges he murdered his third wife, Kathleen Savio — the Illinois Supreme Court on Wednesday sent his case back to the Third District Appellate Court in Ottawa. In February, the appellate court heard arguments from prosecutors and defense attorney Steve Greenberg over what — if any — hearsay evidence can be used against Peterson at his murder trial. Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow had brought the case to the appellate court in a bid …

Drew Peterson's legal team failed again to get the accused wife-killer out of jail.
Drew Peterson's lawyers have failed to get him out of jail more times than the serial marrier has wives. A fifth bid to get the accused wife-killer out of the Will County jail apparently fell on deaf ears at the Illinois Supreme Court late Monday. Peterson has been locked since May 2009 on charges he murdered his third wife, Kathleen Savio. Peterson has been in legal limbo since prosecutors appealed a ruling on hearsay evidence the day before his trial was to start in July 2010. Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow lost that appeal but then filed a motion for leave to appeal to the state Supreme Court in August. That petition remains pending. Peterson is being held on a $20 million bond. His attorneys contend he should be free while …

The Bolingbrook Raiders pounced on the visiting Joliet Central Steelmen with 60 first-half points en route to a 60-6 win in the team's home opener.
Bolingbrook had its way with Joliet Central from wire-to-wire Friday, asserting its dominance early with intimidation and turning into points early and often. The Raiders scored 60 first-half points en route to a 60-6 win against the Steelmen. Bolingbrook improved its record to 3-0 after the 54-point rout. Head coach John Ivlow said after shuffling some pieces around the roster, the team has begun to settle in after three games. "We've had some concerns. We've had to shuffle a couple of guys around, but the guys are starting to find their home and they're doing a nice job at the positions they're in," Ivlow said. Bolingbrook executed flawlessly in nearly all facets of the game. Joliet Central won the coin toss, but did not find itself on…

Locked up for more than two years on a $20 million bond, Drew Peterson is pinning his hopes for freedom on yet another legal move by his defense team.
Undaunted by a four-peat of failure, the mob of lawyers defending disgraced Bolingbrook cop Drew Peterson against murder charges is trying for a fifth time to get him sprung from jail. This latest bid to get Peterson, who is charged with killing one wife and suspected of having a hand in the mysterious disappearance of another, comes within a week of prosecutors petitioning the Illinois Supreme Court to get involved in the case. State's Attorney James Glasgow petitioned the state supreme court to review an unsuccessful appeal of Judge Stephen White's ruling on what hearsay evidence can be used at Peterson's murder trial. Motions attempting to reduce Peterson's astronomical bond or to get him released from custody have been filed four times…
