Police Blotter: DUI, Outstanding Warrant Arrests

Arrests made by Channahon police and other law enforcement agencies.

Deborah D. Leighly, 49, Channahon, was arrested by Channahon police on an outstanding warrant out of Will County on May 15, 2013. Leighly posted the required bond of $375. Brian J. Dalton, 22, Minooka, was arrested by Channahon police for driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, operating an uninsured vehicle and improper lane usage on May 17, 2013. Roger E. Miravete, 48, Channahon, was arrested by Channahon police on an outstanding warrant out of Will County on May 19, 2013. Miravete was released after he posted a bond of $550.

10-Minute Lockdown at Channahon Day Care Center, Minooka High School South Campus

There was a brief lockdown at a Channahon day care center on Tuesday afternoon while police investigated a report of an attempted break-in in the area.

Kidz Korner in Channahon was on lockdown for about 10 minutes on Tuesday afternoon while police investigated a report of an attempted robbery in the vicinity of the child day care center, said Kidz Korner director Tiffany Farkas. The lockdown lasted from about 1:55 to 2:05 p.m., Farkas said. During that time, Kidz Korner personnel used their text alert system to notify parents of the situation. One of the staff members called Channahon police and received an all-clear sign at about 2:05 p.m. One Kidz Korner staff member said she heard Minooka Community High School's South Campus also was on lock-down during the police investigation. Channahon Residents Fume Over Smoke from Plant

Police lieutenant Mark Fischer said smoke and large flames were spotted coming from the LyondellBasell plant on Thursday afternoon and evening. The plant is west of Channahon—off of Route 6—in Grundy County.

Big flames. Dark smoke. Powerful odor. Some Channahon residents were fuming mad Thursday afternon and Thursday night over burning Channahon police lieutenant Mark Fischer said was coming from the LyondellBasell plant on North Tabler Road in Morris. "When plants have an issue, they route product up the flare stack and will ignite it," Fischer said. "It's actually a good thing. It makes the plant safe so there is not any back-pressure." Fischer said Channahon police did not receive any complaint calls about the flames or the smoke. No Injuries, No Damage Reported from Scene of Minooka Brush Fire

Minooka Fire Protection District chief Al Yancey Jr. said his crews worked for more than an hour and a half to extinguish a brush fire near the intersection of Cemetery Road and Tabler Road.

Minooka firefirefighters were called to the scene of a brush fire late Tuesday morning at the intersection of Cemetery Road and Tabler Road. Upon arrival, firefighters found several acres of combination marsh reeds and land burning, Minooka Fire Protection District chief Al Yancey Jr. said. "Firefighters made a quick attack on the head of the fire to prevent it from jumping a road into a larger open area," Yancey said. "The fire was quickly brought under control, and fire crews remained on the scene for another hour and a half extiguishing hot spots and making sure the perimeter of the fire was extinguished." Police Blotter: DUI, Domestic Battery Arrests

Brian W. Amato, 33, Rockdale, was arrested by Channahon police for driving under the influence of alcohol, aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol-DUI w/o valid driver's license, driving while license suspended and improper lane usage on April 28, 2013. Amato was transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility. Juan L. Mitchell, 24, Hammond, Ind., was arrested by Channahon police on an outstanding warrant out of Grundy County on April 30, 2013. Mitchell posted the required bond of $675. Thomas M. Sheridan II, 37, Channahon, and Brittani M. Kotlar-Sheriday, 27, Channahon, were both arrested by Channahon police for domestic battery and transported to the Grundy County Adult Detention Facility on April 30, 2013.

UPDATE: Motorcycle Accident Remains Under Investigation

No serious injuries reported following accident Wednesday night in front of the Pilot gas state on U.S. 6 in Channahon.

Christian Gonzalez, 23, of Channahon suffered minor injuries after his motorcyle ended up in a ditch following an accident that occured early Wednesday night in front of the Pilot Travel Centers gas station on U.S. 6 near the intersection of I-55. The driver of a 1994 Ford Mustang also involved in the accident—19-year-old Shannon Dooley of Oglesby, Ill.—was not hurt in the mishap. The accident occured at 5:12 p.m., according to Channahon patrol officer Brad Bucciarelli. "From talking to witnesses—traffic was congested in that area at that time," Bucciarelli said. "Witnesses said the Ford Mustang pulled out of the Pilot gas staton and had to stop in the intersection due to the traffic. "The motorcycle drove around in the center lane," …

Channahon Police Nab Child Porn Suspect

An undercover investigation led to the arrest of a 64-year-old Channahon man on three felony counts of child pornography.

An undercover investigation by the Channahon police department led to the arrest of a 64-year-old man on three felony counts of child pornography. Michael S. Sims, 64, was taken into custody at his home—25324 W. Bluff St. in Channahon—at 8:37 a.m. on Wednesday morning after an investigation revealed he was offering known images of child pornography, according to Channahon detective Adam Bogart. Sims, 5-9 and 190 pounds, was transported to the Will County Adult Dention Facility. He is facing three felony counts on child porn (film, tape and photos).
