Joliet Catholic Academy's spring musical will be held from March 15-17 at the Bicentennial Park Theatre in Joliet.
In the 1955 film adaptation, Frank Sinatra starred as Nathan Detroit, Marlon Brando as Sky Masterson, Vivian Blaine as Miss Adelaide and Jean Simmons as Sarah Brown in the classic musical Guys and Dolls. At that time, they were known as the best of the best in Hollywood or on Broadway. Likewise, many of the best from the Joliet Catholic Academy Drama Club — moderated by Jennifer Szynal — will be on display as the college preparatory high school for boys and girls stages its annual spring musical, Guys and Dolls. Wilmington’s Nick Humbles will handle the role of Nathan Detroit, while Naperville’s Sam Juveland steps in as Sky Masterson. Minooka Community High School's M.A.S.H. cast performed to sold-out crowds this weekend.
M.A.S.H. cast member Christina Duris had more than one reason to love the Minooka Community High School production of the show this past weekend. "It's not anything like the TV show or the movie," she said. "It's a lot tamer." Christina, a junior from Channahon, played the role of Maj. Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan. The dinner-theater show sold out, and audience members had to purchase tickets by Oct. 28 to allow the school time to plan food for the accurate number of people. Students performed the show for invited parents Thursday night and paying ticket-holders Friday and Saturday nights. Drama teacher Patricia Grawey-Beeler chose to stage M.A.S.H. for several reasons, including that the show allows for a large cast with many evenly …
