A Day on the Farm, Straight from the Horse's Mouth

I never have ridden a horse. While I think they are beautiful creatures, if I get within a certain distance of them, I start sneezing. If one of them licks me, I break out in hives. Readers might wonder, then what would possess me to volunteer to work at an equestrian center for the day. More than anything, I suppose, it was curiosity. Ellis House and Equestrian Center is tucked away in a corner of unincorporated Minooka. It looks like any other farm that fronts Route 52. The only clue this farm is different is a sign: Ellis House and Equestrian Center. Kendall County Forest Preserve District purchased the site in 2008 and opened it to the public in 2009. Dear Dawn, I really enjoyed your article on the horse farm. Horses have always been a love of mine and I was blessed to have a daughter who rode and also did hunter jumper horse shows. It was a wonderful experience. I also have a recommendation for a job for a day....how about a lunch lady in the middle school or high school since those school have the most variety in foods prepared each day. It …   more ›
