Coping with Grief Over the Holidays

Joliet Area Community Hospice offers two-part class entitled Help with the Holidays

For most of us, the holidays are a time of joy, time filled with family and friends, good food and often, presents. It is a time of year we look forward to. For someone who has lost a loved one, though, it can be a time they dread. It's okay to say no to parties or even to events that you always attended because you are just not feeling up to it. "(Those grieving) need to say what do you need what is it you would like from us," Mary Ann Burns, Joliet Area Community Hospice Bereavement Counselor said. The person who is grieving needs to be the one to decide what he or she wants to do. For the other family members who know someone is grieving, though, it is appropriate to ask. Families have to decide what the new normal is now that a loved …

The rotunda of the theater opens at 5 p.m., Nov. 21 and doors to the theater open at 5:30 p.m. with open seating. Inside Business

Joliet Area Community Hospice Thrives on Support

The organization is honoring four local individuals Sunday.

In order to thrive, businesses have to change with the times. This is even true of non-profit organizations. And this is definitely true of Joliet Area Community Hospice. Founded in 1982, Joliet Area Community Hospice now serves clients in six counties, including Will and Grundy Counties. On Sunday, they will honor one of their own - Joan Sereno, who is the executive director of the Grundy Community Volunteer Hospice. Sereno began her life in hospice as a volunteer in JACH. When a need was identified for more services in Grundy County, Sereno heeded the call. Sereno will be receiving the Mary Jo Smith Spirit of Hospice award. “She was a visionary in the world of hospice,” Jodi Wulff, Joliet Area Community Hospice business development …

Hospice Puts on the Glitz for 25 years

Joliet Area Community Hospice Fundraiser well attended even after a quarter century.

Helen Palmer lost her husband less than a year ago. Near the end, she was able to take advantage of the services of Joliet Area Community Hospice. On Nov. 7, she attended the annual fundraiser, Puttin' on the Glitz. Like many of the other 270 people in attendance, Palmer was appreciative for the assistance when she needed it. Losing a Loved One: Coping with Loss Over the Holidays

Joliet Area Community Hospice offers two-part class entitled Help with the Holidays

For most of us, the holidays are a time of joy, time filled with family and friends, good food and often, presents. It is a time of year we look forward to. For someone who has lost a loved one, though, it can be a time they dread. "I recommend if they always had Christmas Eve, then don't do Christmas Eve," Joan Sereno, Grundy County Hospice Executive Director said. "Everybody does not have to continue that first year with the same things they've always done." The person who is grieving needs to be the one to decide what he or she wants to do. For the other family members who know someone is grieving, though, it is appropriate to ask. "They need to say what do you need what is it you would like from us," Mary Ann Burns, Joliet Area …
