The long-awaited new restaurant moves into the old Louie's Chophouse and doesn't disappoint.
When we first walked into Shorewood's new Skooter's, we wondered if we were in Hooter's. The cute filly servers wore Daisy Duke's and cowboy hats. The new theme is Cowgirl Chic, with kitschy Western decor. We wondered if the food was going to be as good as the environment. When our group of four sat down at the table, we were soon reminded that before the place was a roadhouse, it was a chophouse. We got the same quality food that we came to expect at Louie's. Our appetizer's started with yummy gitty up shrimp. They were butterflied and grilled to a little crisp, just the way I like them. The boneless wings were flavorful but not fatty. Of course, we had to try the deep fried bacon. It was definitely worth ordering once, so long as your …

Joliet Catholic Academy's Spanish Exchange Club enjoyed a trip to Vilanova, Spain.
A different language. A different place. A different pace. “People are a little different when they’re at home,” nodded Lauren Finaldi, a Spanish instructor and the moderator of National Spanish Honor Society and Student Exchange. “When you have the opportunity to see your students living and speaking in this type of environment, it gives you more of a full picture.” From April 5 to 18, 14 students from Joliet Catholic Academy’s Spanish Foreign Exchange Club viewed that picture in Vilanova, Spain, a suburb of Barcelona. JCA hosted the same families from Sept. 4 to 15. “That gave us a certain comfort level,” Finaldi said. “Vilanova is a half-hour drive from Barcelona — like Joliet to Chicago, the same kind of distance. The kids were …

It looks like these guys had a hard time somewhere along the line.
We're not saying whether these guys did anything wrong or not — who are we to judge? — but it looks like they've already been punished to some extent by somebody. Like we said, we're not judging anyone. But we would like to point out that none of these people are from Shorewood. You know. Just saying.

Finn the Brittany spaniel has been seen but remains missing.
Finn — the Brittany spaniel rescue dog that ran off in Joliet and made it to the Shorewood area March 31 — may have gone as far afield as Romeoville. Finn was on his way to a new home in Canada when he got loose and made a break for it, said Susan Hennis, the Illinois co-coordinator of the National Brittany Rescue and Adoption Network. But in the last week, Hennis said, Finn was spotted in Camelot subdivision outside Shorewood in Troy Township, and in Romeoville. A Facebook page has been set up to get out more information on Finn and a flier has been distributed. There is a $400 reward for the dog's return. Anyone catching site of the elusive brown-and-white, long-tailed, 30-pound spaniel is asked to call Cathy Schadel 630-701-0507 or …
