Joliet, Will County Jobless Rates Decline in March

While unemployment throughout Illinois has remained mostly unchanged since February, overall 218,500 private sector jobs have been added since January 2010, according to the Illinois Department of Employment Security.

Unemployment rates in Illinois were 9.5 percent in March, a slight decrease over February and slightly higher from the same time in 2012, according to new figures released in late April.  In Joliet, the unemployment rate dropped 1 percent in March to 13.3 percent in the city. That is down from 14.3 percent in February and up from 12.6 percent in March 2012.  In March, in Will County the rate fell to 10 percent from 10.9 percent in February. That figure is up year over year from 9.5 percent. Specific numbers for Shorewood, Channahon and Minooka were not included, because IDES generally reports unemployment figures for municipalities with populations of 25,000 or more people. Wexford Health Services is hiring in Illinois and they have positions available in Sheridan, Menard, Crest HIll, East St. Louis. Pontiac, Danville and Lincoln. Unemployment Report: Jobless Numbers Up Across the Area

Although unemployment is down from this time compared to last year, numbers increased from September 2012 to October.

Unemployment rates in Illinois increased slightly from September 2012 to October, but are still down compared to 2011, according to new figures released last week.  October local unemployment rates fell in every metro area compared to last year, according to data released by the U.S. Department of Labor and the Illinois Department of Employment Security. In Will County unemployment ticked up in October to 8.1 percent from 7.7 percent in September. In Kendall County unemployment increased to 7.1 percent from 6.6 percent in September.  "Falling unemployment rates across our state and the lowest October rates since 2008 show that that our steady economic progress continues," IDES Director Jay Rowell said in a news release.
