A Will County judge will decide whether the lawyer for a Plainfield teen can pursue the psychiatric records of the boy he is charged with sexually abusing.
The lawyer for a Plainfield teen charged with sexually abusing a child is trying to get a hold of the boy's psychiatric records. "I'm not making this request to embarrass or be insensitive to the alleged victim in this case in any way, shape or form," said Neil Patel, the attorney for 19-year-old Jason Minger. Rather, Patel said during a Friday morning court hearing, "The state has indicated that the victim will testify," and the information may prove useful when questioning the boy while he is on the witness stand. According to Patel and to court papers he filed, the boy was undergoing counseling when he told his mother Minger sexually abused him, but he had never mentioned it to the counselor. Joliet police said Juan Gonzalez was charged with predatory criminal sexual assault after he admitted to "kissing" the girl's genital area and masturbating.
A Joliet man who told friends he was taking their 4-year-old daughter with him on a beer run but instead brought her to his apartment to sexually molest her was arrested Thursday, Joliet police said. Juan M. Gonzalez, 42, of 741 Scott St., was visiting friends at their home in the 400 block of Catalpa Street on March 17 and asked to borrow their car in order to purchase more beer, Cmdr. Rich Demick said. The family's young daughter asked to go with, and they allowed him to take her, he said. The family grew worried when they didn't return for more than 45 minutes but Gonzalez said several things delayed them, including the girl needing to use the rest room, Demick said. Jason Hagerstrom's alleged sexual contact began when the now 17-year-old victim was just 6, Will County Assistant State's Attorney Frank Byers said.
A Joliet man told police he began sexually abusing a young girl when she was just 6 years old, and had sex with her more than 400 times in the ensuing 10 or more years, a Will County prosecutor said in court today. Jason Hagerstrom, 35, of 1226 N. Raynor Ave., has admitted to oral, anal and conventional sex and other forms of sexual contact with the victim, who is now 17, Assistant State's Attorney Frank Byers told Judge Roger Rickmon during Hagerstrom's bond hearing. Bond was set at $5 million. After the hearing, Byers said it's likely more charges will be added to the 18 felonies Hagerstrom currently faces when the case goes to the grand jury a few weeks from now. Joliet police arrested Jason Hagerstrom on Saturday night; little information on the case is being released in order to protect the victim, the police chief said.
UPDATE/posted at 7 p.m. Sunday: Joliet Police Chief Mike Trafton has issued the following press release on the Jason Hagerstrom arrest: "Hagerstrom committed the listed offenses over a ten to twelve year period. These offenses involved a juvenile victim. Due to the sensitive nature of these offenses and to protect the victim, no victim information will be released.
